When “You are Here” fails to inform

Sometimes, after finding the “You are Here” mark on an ‘orientation posters’ it is clear that what is shown on the left is to your left; what is shown below the mark is behind you; etc. However at times, this is unfortunately not the case. The decal shown below was created in an effort to minimize time wasted in orienting ones self when faced with a badly posted sign. (It is a pity that those involved in the design and posting of such badly oriented signs show such little respect for the audience which might wish to retrieve utilitarian information from the posting.)

Decals, such as the one shown above, are designed to be placed near the edge of an ‘orientation posters’ (also known as a ‘map’), in a location where they will not obscure significant information. Within the box, an arrow should be added by hand, pointing directly away from the “You are Here” mark. Of course, if the decal is near the top edge of the posting and the arrow is pointing straight up – then there is little need for the addition of the decal.
