Sometimes, after finding the “You are Here” mark on an ‘orientation poster’ it is clear that what is shown on the left side of it is to your left; what is shown below the mark is behind you; etc. At other times, however, this is sadly not the case.
The decal shown below was created in an effort to reduce time wasted in orienting ones self when faced with a badly posted sign. (It is a pity that those involved in the design and posting of such badly oriented signs show such little respect for the audience that might wish to retrieve utilitarian information from their postings. It is a disgrace that, cumulatively, one badly oriented sign can waste hundreds of person-hours; whereas a single hour, applied with forethought and before the poster was sent for printing, could have so simply streamlined the information transfer! It is unfortunate that there is no easy fix better than this decal.)
Decals, such as the one shown above, are designed to be placed, after considered reconnoitring, near the edge of an ‘orientation posters’ (also known as a ‘map’), in a location where they will not obscure significant information. Within the box, an arrow should be added by hand, pointing directly away from the “You are Here” mark. Of course, if the decal is to be near the top edge of the poster and the arrow is to be pointing straight up – then there should be little need for the addition of the decal.
